![]() XS FINISH OFF SWEEP OF ROAD TRIP X’S FINISH OFF SWEEP OF ROAD TRIP
Wichita, KS - The Sioux City Explorers finished off a sweep of the Wichita Wingnuts as well as a sweep of their six game road trip with the 10-4 victory.
Jose Sermo got the scoring started for the X’s hitting a solo home run giving Sioux City a 1-0 lead.
The Wingnuts answered back in the bottom of the third Ryne Willard reached on a one out single and was brought home by a triple by Hunter Clanin to tie the game and Clanin scored on a Logan Watkins single to give the Wingnuts a 2-1 lead.
But Sioux City tied the game in the fourth when Nate Samson singled with two outs in the inning and then stole second base his eighth stolen base of the season and was driven home by a Sermo single tying the game 2-2.
The X’s scored twice in the fifth when Dexture McCall reached on an infield single Daniel Jackson also singled and Luis Durango singled to load the bases with two outs. Jay Austin then drove home two runs for Sioux City with a two out single making it 4-2 X’s.
Sermo then homered for the second time in the game in the sixth a solo shot to right field to make it 5-2 Sioux City.
The Wingnuts would score twice in the bottom of the sixth. They did it by loading the bases with no one out and Fernando Perez base hit to bring home a run. That would do it for Explorers starter Taylor Jordan (6-1) who got the win tonight by going 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, on 8 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1. Ryan Flores replaced him with the bases loaded and no one out. One run would score while Flores was on the mound but was able to produce an out with all three batters he faced in the inning and most importantly the X’s still retained the lead 5-4 after 6 innings.
The X’s would pad that lead as they scored three times in the eighth, Nate Samson walked to lead off the inning and Jose Sermo doubled. Jay Baum drove in his 40th RBI of the season with a single to left field and a ground out by Dexture McCall brought home Sermo. Dylan Kelly then worked a two out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Daniel Jackson drove him home with a double to make it 8-4 at the end of eight.
Jay Austin then hit a two run home run in the ninth to make it 10-4 Explorers.
The Explorers pounded out 18 hits in the ball game and in the series collected 57 hits in total in the three games, an average of 19 hits. The X’s also scored 33 runs in the series an average of 11 runs a game. The X’s finished a six game road trip with a perfect 6-0 record against the St. Paul Saints and the Wichita Wingnuts
The Sioux City Explorers will now come home for a six game home stand start with a three game set against the Winnipeg Goldeyes and a three game set against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with the home stand beginning on Monday with first pitch at 7:05. |
