![]() ANOTHER BIG T-BONES RALLY DOWNS X'S ANOTHER BIG T-BONES RALLY DOWNS X’S
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Explorers came into the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead but a nine run rally for Kansas City saw the game get turned on its head and the T-Bones take game three of this four game series by a score of 10-2.
After losing the lead in the ninth inning on a 5-run rally the previous night the Sioux City Explorers looked to rebound against Kansas City.
Sioux City would get on the board twice in the first. Michael Lang reached on a base hit for his first of three hits on the night. Jay Austin then tripled to deep right-center field to drive in Lang. Samson would ground out to short with one out scoring Austin from third to make it 2-0 Sioux City after one.
Nick Torres would lead off the top of the second with a solo home run off of Keith Picht for his first of the season.
Picht then settled down and was excellent for the X’s. Getting a quality start by going 6 innings and allowing only the 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking only 2. But he would get the no decision after he left the ball game after six innings.
That’s because in the seventh the wheels fell off for Sioux City. Parker Markel who took the loss (0-1) came in from the pen. He hit Angel Rosa the lead off batter with a pitch, after recording a fly out, Johnny Davis reached on an infield base hit to put runners on the corners with one away. Ryan Horstman was then called into the game for Sioux City to face Keith Curcio, who would drop a soft liner into right-center field, and with Davis running on the pitch from first came all the way around to score giving Kansas City the 3-2 lead.
But the T-Bones would not stop there, As Dylan Tice reached on a base hit to put runners on the corners. Zach Walters struck out and Sioux City felt like they could get out of the inning before things got out of hand, but Torres reached on an infield single and Cal Towey drove in two with a double to left-center field to make it 6-2 Kansas City. Adrian Nieto hit a ground ball to short but Nate Samson’s throw to first was off line and pulled Dexture McCall off of first, Towey hustled around third and scored from second on the play to make it 7-2 T-Bones. After back to back walks loaded the bases Johnny Davis tripled down the left field line clearing the bases and driving in three runs to give the T-Bones their 10-2 lead that would end up being the final score.
Luis Paula (1-1) picked up the win for Kansas City going 6.2 innings, allowing only the 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 2. Though he left in the seventh with an arm injury.
Sioux City and Kansas City will play the final game of the four game series on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. It will also wrap up the team’s seven game home stand before they travel to Texas to face the Airhogs and Railroaders for six games total, 3 a piece. |
