FLAIRS EIGHTH INNING RBI TRIPLE LIFTS XS TO SEVENTH STRAIGHT VICTORY05/29/2017 10:05 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers continued their hot-streak as they notched their seventh straight victory with a 5-3 decision over Fargo-Moorhead on Memorial Day. The Explorers scored quickly with a run in the first. With runners at first and second and two outs, X’s first baseman John Nogowski knocked in a couple with a two-run double, giving Sioux City the early 2-0 lead. Fargo-Moorhead cut the lead down in the second. Brett Wiley reached base-on-balls, moved to second with a stolen base, advanced to third off a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by Charlie Valerio. The RedHawks tied it in the fourth. With the bases-loaded and one out, Derrick Fox knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring the runner at third base. Sioux City re-took the lead in the sixth inning. X’s centerfielder Tony Campana gave the X’s the lead with one swing of the bat, hitting a solo-homer to make it 3-2 after six innings. Fargo-Moorhead managed to tie the game with an unearned run. (Error By the right fielder) The Explorers put up two more runs in the eighth inning, giving us the final score of 5-3. X’s second baseman Nick Flair plated a run with an RBI triple, and later scored on a wild pitch. Sioux City’s starter James Needy (1-0) finished with a no decision, allowing two runs in five innings pitched. X’s right-hander Brad Orosey (1-0) received the victory pitching a scoreless 1.2 innings. X’s closer PJ Fransescon (s-4) grabbed his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. Fargo-Moorhead’s lefty (1-0) had a no decision on the night, giving up three runs on five hits and five walks in six innings pitched. RedHawks right-hander Tyler Thompson (0-1) was charged with the loss with two runs allowed in 1.2 innings.
