Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers plated two runs in the second inning and never looked back, getting the 8-0 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

The Explorers scored two runs in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth for Sioux City’s eight total runs.

Sioux City had five batters finish the night with double-digit hits. X’s left-fielder Jayce Ray had two hits (one double), an RBI and a run scored. Nate Samson (2017 AA MVP) went 3-3 with a double and two runs scored. Designated-hitter LeVon Washinton had two hits, an RBI a run scored.

Explorers starter Kurt Heyer finished with a no decision, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Right-hander Todd Eaton (1-0) received the victory, going 3.2 innings with nor runs and four strikeouts. 

Lincoln’s righty Leuris Gomez (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks in three innings.

The Sioux City Explorers and Lincoln Saltdogs will play game two of their three game series tomorrow, first pitch- 11:05 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
