CANARIES GET THE VICTORY OVER XS ON WALK-OFF SINGLE05/21/2017 7:29 PM
Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers fall to the Sioux Falls Canaries on a walk-off RBI single by Chris Jacobs in extra innings. Final score: Canaries 6, Explorers 5 in ten innings. Sioux City jumped to an early lead to start the contest. X’s right fielder Michael Lang smashed a one-out-homer to start the runs. Later in the inning, Nate Samson knocked in a run with an RBI double, giving them the 2-0 lead. Sioux Falls tallied their first runs in the bottom of the first. Canaries designated hitter Jake Taylor cut the lead down to 2-1 with a solo-shot. In the second inning, Explorers tacked on two more. X’s first baseman John Nogowski led-off with a single, and later scored on a two-run homer by X’s second baseman Nic Flair, extending their 4-1 lead. Sioux Falls answered with a two-run homer of their own in the fourth inning. With a runner on and one out, Michael Falsetti cut the lead down to 4-3 with his first home run of the season. Explorers extended their lead in the fifth. With runners at second and third and one out, LeVon Washington knocked in a run with a sac-fly-RBI to centerfield, increasing their lead to 5-3. The Canaries added a run in the seventh. Burt Reynolds led-off the inning with double, moved to third on a base hit, and scored off and RBI single by Sioux Falls shortstop B.J. Guinn Jr, cutting the lead down to 5-4. Sioux Falls tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Jacobs reached first on a base-hit, and scored off an RBI double by Ty Morrison, forcing extra innings with the score tied at 5-5. In the bottom of the tenth, Sioux Falls clinched the 6-5 victory with a walk-off single. Burt Reynolds worked up a two out walk, advanced to second with a stolen base and scored on a walk-off single, Chris Jacobs to win the game. Final score, Canaries 6, Explorers 5. Canaries starter Gary Wood finished with a no decision, giving up five runs in 4.2 innings pitched. Right-hander Jose Ortega (1-0) received the victory pitching a scoreless inning. Sioux City starting pitcher Cody Forsythe had a no decision on the evening, allowing three runs in four innings while recording seven strikeouts. X’s right-hander PJ Francescon (0-1) was charged with the loss, giving up the walk off in the tenth inning. The Sioux City Explorers are heading back home to begin a three game series with the Lincoln Saltdogs (May 22-24th).
