EXPLORERS FALL TO CANARIES ON RAINY FRIDAY05/19/2017 10:01 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers fall to the Sioux Falls Canaries with a 5-4 score on a rain-filled Friday night. The series is now tied at 1-1 apiece, with two more games to go (May 20-21st) in Sioux Falls. Sioux City jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with two RBI doubles. X’s leadoff man Tony Campana (former big leaguer and beloved Cub) reached base-on-balls, stole second base and advanced to third on a base-hit single by Michael Lang. Lang then advanced to second with a stolen base, putting both runners in scoring position. X’s leftfielder Jayce Ray went on to knock in both runners with an RBI double. Ray later scored on an RBI double by Tyler Ogle, extending their lead to three runs. The Canaries were able to cut the lead with a couple runs of their own in the second inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Blake Schmit plated two runs for Sioux Falls with a base-hit single. Sioux Falls tied the game in the third inning. Burt Reynolds started the inning with a walk, moved to second with a stolen base, advanced to third off a balk, and scored on a sac-fly-RBI by B.J. Guinn Jr. The Canaries took the lead in the top half of the seventh. Sioux Falls forced a bases-loaded base-on-balls, giving them the 4-3 lead after six and a half innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Sioux Falls went on to tack on one more (eighth inning) giving us the final score of 5-4. Explorers Fall to the Sioux Falls Canaries with a 5-4 score at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Canaries starter Bryce Morrow (0-0) finished with a no decision, giving up three runs in four innings pitched. Reliever Josh Ferrell (1-0) received the victory with two scoreless innings, and Joes Ortega (s-1) got the save. Explorers starting pitcher Alex White (0-0) had a no decision, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings. X’s right-hander Keith Picht (0-1) was charged with the loss, giving up a run in 1.2 inning of relief. The Sioux City Explorers will continue their series with the Canaries in Sioux Falls on Saturday and Sunday.
