X'S WIN IT IN EXTRAS 5-4 OVER WICHITA08/30/2015 10:26 PM
The Sioux City Explorers improve to seventy wins on the season with the 5-4 extra-inning victory at Lewis and Clark Park.
Wichita got on the board early, plating two runs in the top of the first off of two walks and a bases clearing double, giving them the quick 2-0 lead.
The Wingnuts tacked on another two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Andy Laroche scored from third off a wild pitch for the third run, and in the seventh an RBI single hit by Wichita’s designated hitter Brent Clevlen scored a runner from second.
Explorers put up their first run in the bottom of the seventh. X’s right-fielder Michael Lang led-off the inning with a triple, putting him in position to score on a Rene Tosoni base-hit.
In the ninth inning, Sioux City tied it 4-4 with three huge runs. X’s shortstop Noah Perio Jr doubled to score two runs, cutting the lead to a lone run. Perio went on to be the tying run when Explorers second baseman Ryan Court scored Perio with a base-hit knock, sending it to extra innings.
The Explorers won it in the bottom of the tenth inning, loading them up and forcing a walk-off walked batter to seal the deal and get their seventieth victory of the season.
X’s starting pitcher Ryan Strufing (0-2) finished with the no decision, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings. X’s right-hander Rob Wort (10-3) received the win, getting his tenth win of the season while going three innings with no runs allowed and five strikeouts.
Wingnuts starting pitcher Tim Brown (9-2) had a solid outing on the mound but got the no decision. Brown went seven innings with only one run allowed on five hits and no walks given. Wichita reliever Daniel Bennett (0-8) was charged with the loss, giving up the winning run in the tenth.
X’s first and second basemen Rene Tosoni and Ryan Court both finished the night with two hits. Tosoni went 2 for 3 with two walks and an RBI, while Ryan Court had himself a 2 for 4, a stolen base and RBI game. X’s right-fielder Michael Lang tripled, stole a base and scored a run.
The Sioux City Explorers will now head to Grand Prairie to take on the AirHogs in a four game set (September 1-4th). For additional information, please call 712-277-WINS (9467) or email [email protected] |
