X’S WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT WITH EXTRA INNING VICTORY OVER AIRHOGS

The Sioux City Explorers get the series sweep over Grand Prairie with the 2-1 win in 10 innings to sail to their seventh straight victory.

In the bottom half of the first, Matty Johnson led-off the inning with a walk, stole second base, moved to third on a ground-out and scored on a Rene Tosoni fly-out to centerfield for the first run of the game.

Grand Prairie plated their first run in the second inning. AirHog left-fielder singled to start the inning, moved to first off a Victor Diaz base-hit and scored on an RBI single by Michael Pair to tie it at 1-1 a piece.

Rob Wort pitched in relief for Sioux City going a solid three innings with only one hit allowed and no runs. The right-hander was on the mound in the top of tenth to start the extra innings, going 1-2-3 to send it to the bottom half.

In the bottom half of the tenth, Explorers left-fielder Tim Colwell worked up a lead-off walk, moved to second on a Matty Johnson single, and stole third base to put him in position to score the winning run when Brock Kjeldgaard put the ball in play with the bases loaded to score Colwell from third.

Explorers relief pitcher Rob Wort (6-3) received the win for Sioux City going the final three innings without allowing a run and striking out five. AirHogs right-hander Colin Allen (1-2) was charged with the loss being on the mound when the winning run crossed home plate.

Sioux City had two batters finish the night with double digit hits. Brock Kjeldgaard went 2 for 5 with an RBI, while X’s catcher Matt Koch went 2 for 4. Explorers right-fielder Rene Tosoni had one of the two RBIs for the X’s
