XS GET THE SWEEP IN GRAND PRAIRIE06/07/2015 5:00 PM
Grand Prairie, TX- The Sioux City Explorers got the sweep in Grand Prairie with the win over the AirHogs 4-0 Sunday afternoon.
The X’s scored all of their runs in the early innings of the contest scoring three runs in the second, and one in the third. Sioux City finished with nine hits, left six on-base did not commit an error. Grand Prairie had four hits on the afternoon while leaving six on-base.
In the second inning, Noah Perio Jr started the momentum with a one out single. Perio then stole second and advanced to third on a (4-3) groundout by Ryan Court. With one out and a runner in scoring position at third, Tommy Mendonca knocked in the first run of the game on an RBI double. Mendonca went on to score during the next at-bat when Tim Colwell smacked another run scoring double for the X’s. Tim Colwell would end up scoring the third run of the inning off a wild pitch.
Sioux City scored their final run of the afternoon in the third inning. X’s right-fielder Michael Lang kept his hot streak going in the series, hitting a double to put him in scoring position right away for Sioux City. Lang wasn’t on base for very long, the next batter Rene Tosoni singled to centerfield to score Lang from second base.
Pitching was stellar for the Explorers shutting down the AirHogs in the contest. Starting pitcher for Sioux City was Patrick Johnson (3-0). The righty received the win going six innings, allowing no runs on four hits, two walks, while striking out a season high eight batters. Jimmer Kennedy came in relief and pitched three innings while allowing no runs as well.
The AirHogs Danny Gutierrez (1-2) was charged with the loss, going three innings and allowing four earned runs. Zachary Dando, TyRelle Harris, and Dakota Watts pitched for Grand Prairie also. The Explorers had one batter finished the game with double-digit hits, Michael Lang went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
