SIOUX CITY FALLS TO QUEBEC 5-205/29/2015 9:47 PM
The Sioux City Explorers couldn’t get the win in game one of their three game series with the Capitales with a final of 5-2 Quebec.
The Capitales started the scoring early with three runs in the third off of three hits, three walks and an error. Quebec’s left fielder Mike Washburn had an RBI single in the inning that scored Tim Smith from third and right fielder Tanner Rust went on to score an unearned run in the inning as well off an error.
Quebec scored two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, Tim Smith hit a solo home run in the sixth, and then in the seventh Jean-Luc Blaquiere singled to score Jonathan Malo at third to give the Capitales a 5-0 lead.
X’s got their first run across home plate in the seventh, Ryan Court started the inning with a lead-off walk, Tim Colwell singled to advance Court all the way to third and then Explorer shortstop Noah Perio Jr hit a sac-fly to center that scored Court.
In the eighth, Michael Lang reached first on a single to start it for Sioux City, he then advanced to second on a putout. Brock Kjeldgaard and Ryan Court both reached base on walks to make the bases loaded with two outs. Tim Colwell scored Court from third with a single to shorten the lead to 5-2.
Sioux City went on to score one more run in the ninth with an RBI single by Colwell, but wasn’t able to get the win at Lewis and Clark Park Friday night. The final score being Quebec 5, Explorers 3.
Starting pitcher for the X’s was right-hander Dustin Loggins (1-1). Loggins would be charged with the loss going six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out three. Chris Bodishbaugh pitched three innings for the X’s as well, allowing one run on four hits and a walk.
Mark Hardy received the win for the Capitales. The left-hander went six innings, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks. Derek Dubois, Shaun Ellis and Jay Johnson pitched for Quebec as well with Johnson receiving the save.
Explorers own Rene Tosoni and Tim Colwell had great nights at the plate both getting two hits and an RBI on the contest. Sioux City finished with seven hits and eleven batters left on.
Quebec had two players with double-digit hits as well. Kalian Sams and Jonathan Malo both went 2 for 4 with a walk, Malo also had a run scored. The Capitales finished with nine hits on the night and eight left on base.
