X’S FINISH EXHIBITION PLAY WITH A 3-3 TIE IN ST. PAUL

St Paul, MN- The Explorers end their exhibition season with a 3-3 tie in St. Paul, MN on Tuesday morning at CHS Field.

Starting pitcher for the X’s was right hander Dustin Loggins who had a short but solid outing, going 4.0 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run and striking out four. The lone run scored on Loggins was in the first inning on an RBI single by Saints infielder Ian Gac.

Sioux City managed to tie the game in the fifth inning on an RBI ground out by X’s lead-off man Matty Johnson.

St. Paul scored two runs in the fifth and sixth to retake the lead 3-1, but a late inning rally in the ninth and tenth inning by the Explorers tied it up 3-3 a piece. Tim Colwell started the inning with a lead-off walk, stole second to put him in scoring position, and then scored on a single by X’s infielder Noah Perio Jr.

The Saints led 3-2 after nine innings but since this was a scheduled ten inning game, the X’s kept the momentum on their side. Rene Tosoni led off with a single to start the tenth and then moved to second and third off a ground out and wild pitch. Tommy Mendonca tied the game at 3-3 on a single to right-center field. St. Paul didn’t score in the bottom of the tenth due to good bullpen pitching by Explorers right hander Jose Flores. Sioux City Explorers tie with the St. Paul Saints 3-3 in extra innings.

The Sioux City Explorer’s will face the Sioux Falls Canaries on May 21st at Lewis and Clark Park to start the regular season, 7:05 first pitch and fireworks after the game. For 2015 ticket information at Lewis and Clark Park, call (712) 277-WINS or visit the X’s website at www.xsbaseball.com
