SIOUX CITY – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have signed INF Noah Perio Jr, RHP Jose Flores and have also acquired C Joe Staley in a trade with the Sioux Falls Canaries.


Perio was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 39th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur draft out of De La Salle High School in Concord, CA.  Perio spent the past six seasons in the Marlins organization (2009-2014) reaching as high as Double-A in 2013.  For his 6 year career with the Marlins, Perio has accumulated a.260 batting average and collected 474 hits in 497 games while recording 85 doubles and 187 RBI’s as a middle infielder with a career .962 fielding percentage. The 2015 season will mark the Discovery Bay, CA natives first season in Independent baseball.


Staley was acquired by the X’s in a trade with the Sioux Falls Canaries to complete an earlier trade between the two clubs.  Staley was drafted in the 39th round of the 2007 MLB June Amateur draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays out of Decatur High school in Decatur, TX and by the San Francisco Giants in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft from Lubbock Christian University.  Staley began his career in 2010 with the Giants, where he appeared in 33 games for the Giants Rookie league team where he threw out 17 of 23 base runners (43%).  In 2011 he was assigned to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Salem, OR where he hit .280 with 44 hits in 43 games while collecting 9 doubles and 30 RBI’s.  In 2012, Joe spent the entire season in Augusta, GA in the South Atlantic League, where he produced 41 hits in 71 games, while collecting 17 extra base hits and 23 RBI’S.  Staley appeared in only 8 games in 2013 with the Grand Prairie Airhogs of the American Association before splitting the 2014 season between the Florence Freedom and River City Rascals in the Independent Frontier League where he collectively hit .269 while collecting 82 hits, 16 doubles, 12 homeruns while driving in 58 runs.


Flores comes to the X’s in 2015 after spending the past 8 seasons within the Cleveland Indians and Oakland A’s organizations (2007-2014), while also spending two winters in the Venezuelan Winter League (2009 & 2013). In his 8 seasons, Flores has accumulated (5) seasons in which his ERA was below 3.00 with his best statistical season coming in 2013 as a member of the Akron Aeros in the Double-A Eastern League.  In 59 games with the Aeros, he was 7-3 with a 2.71 ERA in 66.1 innings out of the bullpen, while recording 87 strikeouts to just 27 walks to go along with collecting 16 saves. For his professional career, Flores has appeared in 268 games out of the bullpen including making 13 starts and holds a career 3.83 ERA.  In 376.0 innings, Flores has struck out 347 batters, while only allowing 148 walks good for a 2.34 strikeout to walk ratio.
