X's Stunted by KC Pitching07/15/2014 9:48 PM
Sioux City, IA-The Explorers only placed two runners as far as second base in a 4-0 loss to Kansas City Tuesday night at Lewis & Clark Park.
Sioux City (25-33) had its two-game winning streak snapped by the T-Bones. Kansas City (28-30) scored once in the second and added three in the third for the only runs of the night. In the second, Nick Schwaner hit a two-out double up the left-field line on a pop-up that drove in Vladimir Frias. In the fourth, Danny Richar swatted a three-run home run to deep right field for a 4-0 margin.
The T-Bones only needed two pitchers to stymie the Explorers. Right-hander Casey Barnes posted the win. Barnes (2-0) went seven innings and gave up just five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Kris Regas pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit with one strikeout and one walk. For Sioux City, Greg Holt suffered the loss. Holt (3-8) worked just two-and-two-thirds and yielded four earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Kenny Long bailed out the X’s bullpen as he worked four-and-two-thirds and gave up just one hit with three strikeouts and four walks. It was Long’s longest outing of the season.
One night after the two teams combined for 25 hits, each side only managed six base hits. For Kansas City, Robby Kuzdale went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Danny Richar posted three RBIs on the homer with a run scored. For the Explorers, Amos Ramon was 3-for-4 and Andres Perez went 2-for-4. The X’s left a runner on base in each inning except two, and the lead-off batter reached four times to no avail. There were no errors in the game, and the Explorers infield turned three double plays.
Sioux City wraps up a six-game home stand with the series finale against Kansas City Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For ticket information and promotion specials at Lewis & Clark Park, call 712-277-WINS or visit the Explorers website at www.xsbaseball.com. |
