The Sioux City Explorers pounded out 15 hits and held off a late charge by the Winnipeg Goldeyes to win by the score of 10-9. Sioux City 1B Jorge Delgado and C Ray Serrano went a combined 6-for-10 at the plate with two RBI, three doubles and five runs scored. Explorers SS Ryan Priddy had three hits as well along with two runs scored and two RBI. Sioux City reliever Jon Plefka notched the win as he went four innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. The victory by Plefka was his first of the season.
Amazingly, Sioux City’s Wally Backman Jr. was the only Explorers starter without a hit. Backman went zero-for-five and that put a halt to his league-best 24-game hitting streak. Mike Murphy extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a 1-4 night at the plate while collecting an RBI.
Starter Zach Baldwin (2-3, 6.61 ERA) suffered the loss for Winnipeg. Sioux City reliever Jon Plefka (1-3, 4.14 ERA) got the win. Andrew Snowden picked up his second save.
The Explorers will play Game 3 of this four-game series with the Goldeyes at Shaw Park tonight. Ace Walker (9-4, 3.56 ERA) will get the start for Winnipeg while lefty Richard Salazar (7-7, 4.29 ERA) will take the ball for Sioux City. Game time is 7:05 p.m
