Sioux Falls, SD-----The Explorers defeated Sioux Falls here Wednesday 5-2 as the X's took two out of three from the Pheasants. In winning, Sioux City has now won five of seven from Sioux Falls this season in the I-29 series.
It was a quick start for the X's in the third inning as Brian Bistange led off with a double and scored on a one out double by Yusuke Inoguchi to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead. Michael Lang then tripled to score Inoguchi and Kris Sanchez drove home Lang on an infield out as Sioux City was off and running with a 3-0 lead. Sioux Falls cut the lead to one in the sixth inning when they scored two runs after two outs to make it a 3-2 lead for the X's.
However, in the seventh inning the Explorers got those two runs back with RBI's by Newton, who increased his hitting streak to nine and a RBI single by Inoguchi, who finished the game with three hits. Meantime, Richard Salazar pitched eight inning to record his third win of the year, his second victory against Sioux Falls. Chris Bodishbaugh pitched the ninth to get his fifth save of the season. The Explorers defensively turned three double plays in the game and in the three-game series turned eight double plays against the Pheasants. Sioux City will open up a four-game series Thursday against Winnipeg at Lewis and Clark Park. Game time will be 7:05.
