Sioux City, IA - Chicago returned Sioux City a dose of its own medicine. After the X’s snapped Chicago’s nine game winning streak the night before 12-4, the Dogs end the Explorers modest three game streak with an 11-4 victory on Tuesday night. The Dogs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first after a Trey Vavra RBI single, Keon Barnum stepped to the plate with two on and crushed a three run homer to center. His first of two homers on the night. Taylor Jordan (3-8) drew the start tonight for Sioux City, went five innings allowing seven runs on 13 hits while walking two and striking out six. He would settle down and keep the Dogs off the scoreboard for the next couple of innings. But Chicago put together another rally in the fourth this time all with two outs. After two quick ground outs, Vavra would double. Barnum was intentionally walked in favor of Victor Roache who made the X’s pay for the decision with an RBI double to left. After another walk, Mitchell Kranson drove in a pair with a base hit to put Chicago up 7-0 in the fourth. The was enough for Austin Wright (4-5) as the south paw tossed five and 2/3rds innings allowing just three runs on four hits with five strike outs and four walks. Sioux City would jump on the board in the fourth after Jose Sermo doubled, he would steal third and score on a sacrifice fly to center by Dexture McCall making it 7-1. Keon Barnum went deep for the second time in the game to lead off the sixth inning pushing the lead to 8-1. It was the third time this season Barnum has collected a multi home run game with two of those coming against Sioux City. The X’s responded to that with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth. Sermo walked and McCall doubled to put runners at second and third. Drew Stankiewicz delivered a two out single to right scoring both and making it 8-3 Chicago. But the Dogs would put the game away in the seventh. A lead off single from Tony Rosselli lead to David Olmedo-Barrera being hit by a pitch. Edwin Arroyo then doinked a pitch off the right field foul pole for a three run blast. It was the third home run of the game for Chicago and pushed their lead to 11-3. Arroyo had gone 4-4 the night before and now in the first two games of this series is 7-9 with 4 RBI’s and two runs scored. Sioux City tacked on a final run in the ninth on a Nate Samson RBI double who had a good night at the plate collecting three hits for the seventh time this season. The X’s and Dogs will play the rubber game of the three game set on Wednesday night. Pete Tago makes his home debut for the X’s against lefty DJ Snelten for Chicago. First pitch is set for 7:12 pm. |
