Grand Prairie, TX - The Sioux City Explorers were able to win by a score of 3-2 over the Texas Airhogs.
Both teams got off to a slow start offensively though the Explorers had at least one man on base in each inning the entire game.
Taylor Jordan lead the way for the X’s on the mound as he tossed his third straight quality start in this one, going 7 innings, allowing just a single run on 7 hits, striking out 5 and not walking a single batter. Jordan (10-3) picked up the win and is the first Sioux City pitcher to reach the 10 win plateau.
The X’s finally broke through on the scoreboard in the fifth as Luis Durango would reach on a one out single, he then stole second and scored on a two out base hit by Nate Samson to give Sioux City a 1-0 lead.
The Airhogs though answered immediately as in their half of the fifth Luo Jinjun reached on an infield single on a ground ball up the middle that ricocheted off of Jordan’s cleats. Du Xiaolei thens singled and Luo went first to third. Luo would score on a fielders choice by Yang Jin to tie the game 1-1.
That’s how the score would stay till the eighth. Blake Schmit was able to start off the inning by getting to second on an error on the third baseman. A sacrifice bunt then moved Schmit to third. Following a walk by Jose Sermo a Jay Baum ground out scored Schmit to give Sioux City the lead and Dexture McCall drove in Sermo with a base hit and Sioux City was in front 3-2.
In the ninth Eric Karch was able to collect his 18th save of the season. Though Texas was able to score in the inning and get the tying run into scoring position and the winning run on base Karch was able to close out the victory for Sioux City.
The X’s pounded out 10 hits in the ball game which is the 42nd time this season that they have collected 10 hits or more in a ball game and now move to 38-4 when they do. Sioux City is also now 13-0 on Friday’s.
The Explorers and Airhogs will play game three of the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 7:05 and the right hander James Dykstra on the hill for Sioux City while Texas’ starter is yet to be announced. |
