EXPLORERS OPEN SERIES VS GOLDEYES WITH VICTORY06/06/2017 9:35 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers looked like their old selves Tuesday night, getting the 6-3 victory over Winnipeg at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. The Goldeyes jumped to an early 3-0 lead after two and a half innings of play, scoring one run in the second and two runs in the third. Sioux City cut the lead down to 3-2 in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back doubles by Jayce Ray and Nate Samson tacked on the first run for the X’s. On the next at bat, Sampson scored from second on a John Nogowski RBI single. Explorers took the lead in the fourth. With runners at second and third, X’s right fielder ripped a two-run triple, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jayce Ray to give Sioux City the 5-3 lead after four innings. Sioux City went on to score one more in the contest, giving us the final score of 6-3 on Tuesday night. (Tyler Ogle sac-fly-RBI) X’s starter Cody Forsythe (1-1) received the victory, going 6.2 solid innings with only three runs allowed while recording six strikeouts. Closer PJ Fransescon (s-5) notched the save. Goldeyes right-hander Zach Nuding (1-2) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
