EXPLORERS PITCHING STRUGGLES IN LOSS TO RAILCATS06/03/2017 10:39 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers tallied six runs offensively but struggled on the mound, allowing nine runs to fall to Gary SouthShore (9-6) at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. The RailCats jumped to an early 8-0 lead recording four runs in the first inning, and two runs each in the second and third innings. Gary SouthShore went on to score one more in the seventh inning, giving them nine total runs on the night. The Explorers scored two runs in the third, three in the fifth, and one in the eighth innings to give them their six total runs on the night. Gary SouthShore had three big hitters on the night. Anthony Cheky Jr went 4 for 4 with three runs scored. Colin Willis went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Frank Martinez had one hit, one run and three RBI. Sioux City had four hitters finish the night with double-digit hits. Tony Campana went 3 for 5 with two runs. Michael Lang had two RBI along with a double, a triple, and a run scored. Nate Samson went 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run. Tyler Ogle had a huge night going 4 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Explorer’s starter Mark Vasquez was charged with the loss, giving up six runs in 1.2 innings. Gary SouthShore righty Ryan Fritze (3-0) received the victory, and Jorge De Leon (s-3) recorded the save.
