SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that their schedule for the 2017 American Association season has been finalized and will feature 10 different opponents coming to Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park, which will mark the teams 25th season in Siouxland. The Explorers will open the 2017 season at home versus the Sioux Falls Canaries on Thursday, May 18th, 2017. The X’s will play the first two games in Sioux City before traveling to Sioux Falls for the final two games of the scheduled four game opening series. The American Association will operate with a total of 12 teams in three divisions. Sioux City will once again be a member of the American Association’s Central Division, along with the Gary Southshore Railcats, Kansas City T-Bones, and Lincoln Saltdogs. The North Division will be comprised of the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Sioux Falls Canaries, St. Paul Saints, and the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The South Division will be made up of the Laredo Lemurs, Grand Prairie Airhogs, Wichita Wingnuts, and the league’s newest member in 2017, the Cleburne Railroaders (Cleburne, TX). There will be 50 home games played at Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park with an equal number of games to be played on the road. The American Association All-Star Game will be held on July 25, 2017 in Ottawa, ON, Canada. Four teams will qualify for the playoffs – the three division winners and one wild card team, with both rounds of the playoffs being a best of five series. The wild card team will be determined by the team with the best winning percentage that does not win their respective division. The Sioux City Explorers will release their 2017 game times and promotions schedule in future press releases.
