EXPLORERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH AIRHOGS, STAY IN FIRST PLACE09/03/2016 7:41 PM
Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers split doubleheader with the AirHogs, falling in game one 2-1, and winning game two with an 11-4 victory. Both starting pitchers played well in game one, with each pitcher going six solid innings out of seven innings total the first of the doubleheader. AirHogs left-hander Griffin Russell (4-9) received the victory, allowing only one run in six innings pitched. Texas right-hander Trey Masek (s-1) got the save on the afternoon. GAME TWO OF DOUBLEHEADER Texas scored early, recording the first two runs in the first inning. Michael Hur knocked in a run with an RBI single, and Devon Rodriguez scored the runner at third with a sacrifice-fly. The Explorers went on to tie it, plating a run in the second and third innings. Ino Patron scored a run with a sacrifice-fly to cut the lead down to one. An innings later, X’s shortstop Nate Samson smashed a solo-shot to tie the game at 2-2. In the fourth, Sioux City added another two runs. Tommy Mendonca singled, moved all the way to third on an Ino Patron double, and scored off an error by the shortstop. Derrick Robinson plated Patron an at-bat later with an RBI single to right field. X’s catcher Ralph Henrquez extended the lead to 5-2 with a solo home run in the fifth inning. Explorers exploded for six runs in the seventh inning. Tim Colwell scored the first run with a solo-homer. Ino Patron tacked on another two runs with an RBI double. Michael Lang plated a run with an RBI single, and two runs scored off a fielder’s choice and sacrifice-fly. AirHogs went on to record the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh to get the 11-4 final score in Texas. Sioux City starter Reinier Roibal (1-0) received the victory on game two of the doubleheader, allowing two runs to score in four innings pitched. Texas lefty David Russo (3-7) was charged with the loss, giving up five runs in six innings pitched.
