![]() MENDONCAS RBI SINGLE IN THE ELEVENTH LIFTS XS TO VICTORY Winnipeg, CA- The Sioux City Explorers end their series in Winnipeg with a victory. X’s third baseman Tommy Mendonca ripped an RBI single in the top of the eleventh, giving them the 3-2 tilt on Sunday afternoon. Winnipeg recorded the first run in the second inning. Josh Romanski led-off with a base-on-balls, moved to second on a balk, and scored off an RBI single by David Rohm for the first run of the game. The Goldeyes took the 2-0 lead an inning later. Casio Grider smashed a solo-shot for their second run of the game on Sunday afternoon. Sioux City cut the lead down to a lone run in the seventh. X’s first baseman Ralph Henrquez knocked in a run with an RBI single, cutting the deficit down to 2-1. In the ninth inning, X’s third baseman Tommy Mendonca tied it with a solo-homer, forcing extra-innings in Winnipeg at Shaw Park. In the top of the eleventh, the Explorers took command. Tim Colwell led-off with a walk, moved to second on an error by the shortstop, and scored off an RBI single by Tommy Mendonca to take the clutch 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the eleventh, X’s closer Rob Wort sent the Goldeyes down 1-2-3 with two strikeouts, to clinch the 3-2 victory for Sioux City. X’s starter Bryan Escanio (5-3) had a no decision, allowing only two runs in six innings pitched. Explorers right-hander Rob Wort (5-4) received the victory on Sunday afternoon, pitching three scoreless innings while striking out six on the day. Goldeyes starting pitcher Mikey O’Brien (10-4) finished with a no decision, going six solid innings with only one run allowed. Winnipeg’s right-hander Brandon Shimo (2-1) was charged with the loss.
