SIOUX CITY CANT GET VICTORY ON THURSDAY NIGHT08/25/2016 9:47 PM
Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers fall to the Canaries with a 12-8 score on Thursday night. Sioux City recorded the first run in the first inning. Michael Lang reached first on a fielder’s choice, advanced to second on an error by the pitcher, and scored off an RBI single by Nate Samson. The Canaries answered with four runs of their own, in the second and third innings. Canaries tied in the second with an RBI single by Cameron Monger. In the third, Sioux Falls racked up three more, off a solo-homer by Patrick Fiala, an RBI groundout and a sacrifice-fly. In the fifth, the X’s added a run. Ino Patron doubled and scored on an RBI single by Bryan Johns to cut the lead down to two runs. The Explorers offense took fire in the sixth, chalking up five big runs to take the 7-4 lead. LeVon Washington (1-RBI) and Tommy Mendonca (2-RBI) each scored a run with RBI singles. X’s second baseman Bryan Johns knocked in a run with an RBI triple. Derrick Robinson added the final run of the inning with a base-hit single, scoring Johns at third base. In the bottom of the sixth, Sioux Falls cut the lead back down to one. Back-to-back RBI singles by J.C. Linares and Blake Schmidt cut the lead down to 7-6 after six innings of play. Sioux Falls went on to get the 12-8 victory over the Explorers, scoring six runs total in the seventh and eighth innings. Canaries starter Dylan Thompson (4-1) finished with a no decision, giving up seven runs (six earned) in 5.2 innings pitched. Left-hander Josh Ferrell(3-1) received the victory going 1.1 scoreless innings. Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (3-9) finished with a no decision, pitching only two innings with one run allowed. X’s reliever Rob Wort (4-4) was charged with the loss, giving up three runs in one inning.
