Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers came back from a six-run deficit, but would wind up falling to the Canaries with a 7-6 score in Sioux Falls on Wednesday night.

Sioux Falls jumped to a quick 6-0 lead, plating runs in the first and second inning. Ethan Chapman led-off with a solo-homer to start the bottom of the first inning. J.C. Linares knocked in a run with an RBI single and later scored himself on a Blake Schmit two-run homer. The Canaries scored two runs in the second off a a sacrifice-fly and an error by the third baseman.

Explorers recorded their first runs in the third inning. X’s shortstop Nate Samson knocked in a run with an RBI double. LeVon Washington scored two more with an RBI single.

In the sixth, Sioux City added another run. With the bases loaded, Michael Lang reached first on a hit-by-pitch, forcing the runner at third base to score.

Sioux City tied it in the eighth inning. Derrick Robinson and Michael Lang each scored unearned runs, off an error by the catcher and a wild pitch, tying the game at 6-6.

The Canaries answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth. With a runner at second and two outs, Jake Taylor singled to score the runner at second base, taking the 7-6 lead.

In the top of the ninth, Canaries reliever Jose Ortega (s-1) sent the Explorers down 1-2-3 to clinch the 7-6 victory at The Birdcage on Wednesday night.

Sioux Falls starter Kris Regas had a no decision (4-7) finished with a no decision, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Canaries left-hander Billy Waltrip (3-1) received the victory, letting to unearned runs to score in one inning.

Explorers starter Cody Forsythe (10-4) had a no decision, giving up six runs (five earned) in 6.1 innings pitched with four strikeouts. X’s reliever PJ Francescon (3-7) was charged with the loss, allowing one run in 1.2 innings.
