EXPLORERS WIN CLOSE ONE ON SATURDAY NIGHT08/20/2016 9:11 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers score two of their three runs scored on wild pitched, giving them the 3-1 victory over Winnipeg at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Sioux City recorded the first run in the fifth inning. Ino Patron smashed a solo-shot, giving the X’s the late inning 1-0 lead after five innings of play. Winnipeg tied it an inning later. With a runner at second and one out, Adam Heisler ripped a game tying RBI double, scoring the runner at second base. Explorers retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Bryan Johns worked up a lead-off walk, stole second base, moved to third and scored on two wild pitches, giving Sioux City the 2-1 lead after seven innings of play. Sioux City went on to score another run off a wild pitch in the eighth inning, giving them the final score of 3-1 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Explorers starter Jake Kuebler (2-2) finished with a no decision, going six solid innings with only one runs allowed. X’s reliever PJ Francescon (3-6) received the victory pitching two scoreless inning. Rob Wort (s-4) got the saved, going 1-2-3 in the ninth inning to clinch the 3-1 victory. Winnipeg’s right-hander Duke Von Schamann (7-6) had a no decision on the night, allowing one run in six innings pitched. Left-hander Eric Eadington (3-2) was charged with the loss, giving up an earned run in an inning pitched.
