SLATTERYS WALK-OFF SINGLE LIFTS EXPLORERS OVER REDHAWKS08/16/2016 9:30 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers get the extra-inning victory in walk-off fashion, winning 1-0 in ten innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. In the bottom of the tenth inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Brendan Slattery ripped a walk-off RBI single to get the 1-0 victory over Fargo-Moorhead in ten innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Explorers lefty Hobbs Johnson (1-1) finished with a no decision, pitching four scoreless innings while striking out five on the night. X’s right-hander PJ Franceson (2-6) received the victory, pitching a scoreless ninth and tenth innings. RedHawks starter Jose Almarante (3-1), pitched an absolute gem but would finish with a no decision. The right-hander went eight scoreless innings, with only two hits allowed, one walk and five strikeouts. Fargo-Moorhead’s two relievers were charged with the run and the loss on Tuesday night. Right-hander Roman Madrid is taxed with the earned run, but lefty Will Mathis (1-5) was charged with the loss, allowing the winning run to score in the tenth inning.
