EXPLORERS SWEEP LAREDO WITH BLOWOUT VICTORY06/27/2016 9:27 PM
![]() X'S SWEEP LAREDO Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers ended the home stand with a bang, blowing out the Lemurs and getting the sweep with the 12-5 victory at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Sioux City exploded for eight quick runs in the first inning. Tommy Mendonca and Matt Koch knocked in four runs between the two, with a couple of two-run singles. Brendan Slattery added another run with an RBI single. Matty Johnson doubled to score a run, and Michael Lang chalked up a couple more runs with a two-run triple. Laredo recorded their first run in the second. J.D. Pulfer reached base-on-balls, moved all the way to third on a Leandro Castro double, and scored on a sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, Explorers added their ninth run. X’s right fielder Michael Lang led-off with a double, stole third base, and scored on a Tommy Mendonca base-hit single. The Lemurs plated one in the fifth and three in the sixth inning. Laredo centerfielder Alvaro Rondon gave Laredo their second run of the contest with a solo-homer in the fifth. J.D Pulfer singled to score a run, and Leonardo Castro homered with a runner on, giving them five on the night. Explorers went on to score three more runs in the contest and get the victory, blowing out Laredo 12-5 to end the series at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. X’s right-hander Bryan Escanio (1-1) received his first victory as an Explorer, going 5.2 innings with five runs allowed and two strikeouts. Lemurs starter Danny Moskovits (2-3) was charged with the loss, giving up nine runs in five innings pitched. The Sioux City Explorers will head start a three game series in Fargo, ND on Tuesday (28-30th) against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
