Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers weren’t able to keep the momentum rolling from the night before, scoring only two runs, Tuesday while falling to St. Paul 6-2 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
St. Paul scored the first run of the contest in the third inning. Saints catcher Aaron Gretz worked up a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored with an RBI single by Breland Almadova.
The Saints got in a rhythm after their run in the third, adding four more runs an inning later. St. Paul recorded two of the runs with RBI singles, one run with a bases-loaded walk and another on a sacrifice.
Sioux City was able to answer with a couple runs of their own in the bottom half. X’s second baseman Noah Perio led-off with a base-hit-single, advanced all the way to third on a Nate Samson double, and scored on a 5-3 groundout by Tommy Mendonca. X’s own Nate Samson went on to score from third, on a wild pitch.
St. Paul went on to score one more run in the contest, tacking on the final run with a fielder’s choice, which scored the runner at third base. Final score, St. Paul 6, Explorers 2 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
The Saints starting pitcher, Robert Coe (4-1) received the win on the night, allowing only two runs in seven innings pitched. X’s right-hander Ryan Zimmerman (2-4) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs on ten hits in six innings.
The Sioux City Explorers and St. Paul Saints will play the final game of the series on Wednesday at 7:00 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
