XS GET THIRTEENTH CONSECUTIVE WIN OF THE SEASON08/10/2015 9:16 PM
The Sioux City Explorers get the sweep and their thirteenth consecutive win of the season with the 5-2 rout over the Canaries in Sioux Falls. Ryan Court and Brock Kjeldgaard both homered in the contest.
Brock Kjeldgaard started the scoring early for the X’s cranking a two run home run in the top half of the first giving Sioux City the early 2-0 lead.
Sioux Falls plated their first runs in the second, designated hitter Brian Humphries led-off the inning with a solo-shot for the first. After the home run Canaries right-fielder Jason Repko doubled, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice to tie it at 2-2 a piece.
The Explorers went on to score runs in the third and fourth innings. X’s designated hitter Brock Kjeldgaard knocked in a run with a base hit single, and in the fourth Ryan Court smashed a solo-shot to extend the lead 4-2 at the Birdcage.
In the fifth inning, X’s right-fielder Brent Keys worked up a lead-off walk, moved to second on a Rene Tosoni single, advanced to third on a base hit by Noah Perio Jr and scored off an RBI single by Ryan Court to make it 5-2, which went on to be the final score of the game.
Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman received the win going seven solid innings with two runs allowed on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Right-hander Jose Flores (s-18) came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth, closing it out and getting his eighteenth save of the season.
Sioux City had three batters with double-digit hits, Rene Tosoni had a three hit night with a run scored. X’s designated hitter Brock Kjeldgaard knocked in three alongside a homer and a run scored, and Ryan Court went 2 for 4 with two RBIs a home run and a run.
The Sioux City Explorers will head home for a six game home stand, facing the St. Paul Saints in a three game seres (August 11-13th) and then the Kansas City T-Bones (August 14-17th). For additional information, please call 712-277-WINS (9467) or email [email protected] |
