The Sioux City Explorers extended their win streak with their tenth win in a row to get the sweep with the 5-1 victory over Fargo-Moorhead. 

The Explorers scored right away in the bottom of the first, plating Matty Johnson and Brent Keys from third base off wild pitches to take the early 2-0 lead. 

In the second inning, the X’s knocked in another. X’s third baseman Tommy Mendonca led-off with a single and later scored off an RBI single by Brent Keys. Sioux City went on to score one more run in the third inning, when Noah Perio crossed home off an error by the second baseman to give them the 4-0 lead. 

Fargo-Moorhead put their first run on the board in the sixth inning. RedHawks centerfielder Drew Muren tripled to start the inning and scored off a Chad Mozingo base-hit to cut the lead to three runs. 

In the eighth innings, X’s catcher Brendan Slattery knocked in Sioux City’s fifth and final run with a base-hit single to score Tim Colwell from second base and give the X’s the 5-1 advantage, which ended up being the final score of the game. 

Explorers starter Patrick Johnson improved to 11-0 with the victory going seven innings allowing one run on six hits, one walk while tying his season high in strikeouts with ten. Right-hander David Herndon (0-1) received his first save of the season closing it out in the eighth and ninth innings. 

RedHawks left-hander Brandon Mann (3-8) was charged with the loss giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits, three walks with twelve big strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Right-hander Benji Waite came out of the bullpen in the eighth inning allowing an earned run for Fargo-Moorhead. 

Sioux City’s number one and two hitters in the lineup finished the night with double-digit hits. Lead-off man Matty Johnson had a two hits night with a run scored, while right-fielder Brent Keys went 2 for 4 an RBI and run scored.
