XS SNAP SIX GAME WIN STREAK06/11/2015 9:54 PM
The Sioux City Explorers played well but couldn’t get the win over Winnipeg Thursday night. Final score, Goldeyes 3, X’s 2.
Pitching was great for both ball clubs with neither team scoring a run until the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth the Goldeyes scored three runs on five hits which were all singles. Winnipeg right-fielder Brady Wilson knocked in the first run of the game on an RBI single that scored a man from second. The second run was an RBI single by second baseman Brad Boyer that brought in Brady Wilson from second base, and the third run was another RBI single, this time by Casey Haerther which plated Brad Boyer.
The X’s scored a run in the sixth as well, Dillon Usiak led off with a base-hit-single to start the bottom half of the inning. Sioux City centerfielder Matty Johnson worked up a walk to put two men on. With one out in the inning and runners at first and second, first-baseman Rene Tosoni smacked an RBI single to score Usiak and shorten Winnipeg’s lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Explorers scored a run off a sac-fly RBI by Tommy Mendonca, but couldn't capitalize any further in the inning leaving the bases loaded to end the game. Sioux City finished with eight hits on the night, leaving seven on base. The Goldeyes had ten hits while leaving five on-base.
Jeff Marquez (3-1) was the starting pitcher for Sioux City. The right-hander pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on ten hits, while striking out three. Winnipeg’s starter Nick Hernandez received the win going seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two base-on-balls. Jailen Peguero got the save for the Goldeyes.
Sioux City had two hot-hitters on the contest; catcher Dillon Usiak who had two hits and a run scored in the game, and Tommy Mendonca who finished with a double and an RBI. Winnipeg had two batters finish with two hits, lead-off man Casio Grider and centerfielder Adam Heisler.
The X’s play games two and three of their home series vs the Goldeyes on Friday and Saturday. For 2015 ticket information at Lewis and Clark Park, call (712) 277-WINS or visit the X’s website at www.xsbaseball.com |
