X'S RE-SIGN BIG BAT FOR 2015 CAMPAIGN02/25/2015 11:31 AM
SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers have without a doubt bolstered their line-up for the upcoming 2015 season with the re-signing of 1B/DH Brock Kjeldgaard. Kjeldgaard came to the X’s on August 15th via a trade with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Independent Atlantic league. The 2015 season will mark Brock’s 10th season of professional baseball and second season as a member of the X’s.
Kjeldgaard, a 29-year-old native of London Ontario appeared in 14 games with the X’s after being acquired in a trade with the Lancaster Barnstormers and made an immediate impact by launching a towering home run over the left field wall in his first at-bat as a member of the X’s. In just 14 games, Brock hit .358 with 19 hits, 7 doubles, 3 home runs, while collecting 15 RBI’s in 53 at-bats to go along with a .455 OBP and a .660 slugging percentage.
“I am thrilled to have Brock with us from the start of the season as he will be a tremendous addition to the middle of our line-up as he has proven to be a threat at the plate over his entire career with his ability to hit for power and drive in runs,” comments field manager Steve Montgomery. ”
Kjeldgaard was selected in the 34th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2005 MLB June drafted out of Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, IA. He spent nine seasons with the Brewers organization with 4 seasons at the AA level. In each of his last 7 seasons, Brock has produced double digit doubles and homeruns, while twice hitting 24 homeruns in a season (2011, 2013). For his career, he has played in 822 games, scored 400 runs, recorded 683 hits, 140 doubles, 132 homeruns and collected 466 RBI’s with a career .247 batting average.
The 2015 season will kick off on May 21st when the X’s welcome the Sioux Falls Canaries to Lewis & Clark Park for the home opener, the series will see the first 3 games played in Sioux City with the final game of the four game series being played in Sioux Falls on Sunday, May 24th.
