Lincoln, NE-Sioux City's final exhibition tune-up against the Saltdogs once again displayed the Explorers' offensive potential in a 15-9 win at Haymarket Park Tuesday night.
The X's jumped in front early with a three-run first inning thanks to RBI singles by Andres Perez and Mark Sobolewski. Lincoln answered in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run from Ian Gac. The Saltdogs added two more runs for a 5-3 lead after one. Sioux City went right back to work in the second, plating six more runs for a 9-5 advantage. The inning was highlighted by a Tommy Mendonca three-run homer, and a two-run shot courtesy of Peter Barrows. Lincoln pushed three runs across in the bottom half to make it 9-8 in favor of the Explorers.
Three straight scoreless innings passed before the X's bats came alive again in the sixth. Sioux City scored four times in the inning, which included a two-run scoring double off the bat of Luke Murton. In the Saltdogs' sixth, Brian Joynt hit a solo home run to make it 13-9. The Explorers added two in the ninth for the final margin. The two teams combined for 23 base hits, and the Saltdogs racked up three errors on the night. The Explorers avenged a 23-16 preseason loss to Lincoln last week in Hinton.
With the win, Sioux City wrapped up the exhibition schedule at 2-2. The X's scored a total of 60 runs in the four games.
