Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers continued their hot-streak as they notched their seventh straight victory with a 5-3 decision over Fargo-Moorhead on Memorial Day.
The Explorers scored quickly with a run in the first. With runners at first and second and two outs, X’s first baseman John Nogowski knocked in a couple with a two-run double, giving Sioux City the early 2-0 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead cut the lead down in the second. Brett Wiley reached base-on-balls, moved to second with a stolen base, advanced to third off a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by Charlie Valerio.
The RedHawks tied it in the fourth. With the bases-loaded and one out, Derrick Fox knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring the runner at third base.
Sioux City re-took the lead in the sixth inning. X’s centerfielder Tony Campana gave the X’s the lead with one swing of the bat, hitting a solo-homer to make it 3-2 after six innings.

The Explorers put up two more runs in the eighth inning, giving us the final score of 5-3. X’s second baseman Nick Flair plated a run with an RBI triple, and later scored on a wild pitch.
Sioux City’s starter James Needy (1-0) finished with a no decision, allowing two runs in five innings pitched. X’s right-hander Brad Orosey (1-0) received the victory pitching a scoreless 1.2 innings. X’s closer PJ Fransescon (s-4) grabbed his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Fargo-Moorhead’s lefty (1-0) had a no decision on the night, giving up three runs on five hits and five walks in six innings pitched. RedHawks right-hander Tyler Thompson (0-1) was charged with the loss with two runs allowed in 1.2 innings.
