Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers get three game sweep over the Joplin Blasters at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park, getting the 6-1 victory on Thursday night.
Sioux City jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. With the bases loaded, Tim Colwell ripped a double in the gap to score the runners at second and third base.
In the top of the sixth, Joplin recorded their first run of the game. Mark Krueger doubled with one out, advanced to third on an Alex Polston base hit, and scored on a 5-3 groundout by Sean Smith, cutting the lead to a lone run.
Explorers exploded with four runs in the seventh inning. The first runs scored came off an error by the third baseman, scoring the runner at third base. RBI singles by Nate Samson and Jarek Cunningham racked up two more runs. Tommy Mendonca’s sac-fly-RBI plated a run as well.
In the bottom of the ninth, X’s right-hander Bubba Maxwell went 1-2-3 to seal the 6-1 victory for Sioux City.
Explorers left-hander James Walsh (2-2) received the victory on the night, allowing only one run with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.
Joplin’s starter Alex De La Cruz (1-4) was charged with the loss, giving up four runs in six innings pitched.
