Grand Prairie, TX- The Sioux City Explorers scored one run in the second and never looked back, getting the win over Grand Prairie 8-2 Friday night.


The Explorers plated their first run of the game on an RBI single by X’s catcher Matt Koch to give them the early lead. In the third inning, Michael Lang led off with a single to start, he then advanced to third off a single by Rene Tosoni and later scored on a 6-3 groundout by Brock Kjeldgaard. Sioux City shortstop Noah Perio Jr tripled on the next at-bat to score Tosoni from second base. Ryan Court added another run in the inning when he singled to left to score Perio. The X’s went on two score one more in the fourth to give them 5-0 lead. 


AirHogs right-fielder Victor Ferrante kept the fifth inning alive for Grand Prairie with a two-out single. He went on to score the AirHogs first run of the game on the next at-bat when left-fielder Chris Elder doubled to score Ferrante from first. 


Sioux City scored one run in the sixth, Michael Lang tripled and later scored on a RBI single by first baseman Rene Tosoni. The X’s scored their final two runs of the game in the eighth inning, on three hits (all-doubles) by Matt Koch, Tommy Mendonca and Rene Tosoni. Matt Koch doubled to start the inning, Mendonca drove Koch from second during the next at-bat, and then Tosoni hit a two-out double to centerfield to score Mendonca from third base. 


Grand Prairie managed to score one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a lead-off solo home run by Victor Ferrante to start the inning, but that would be all the runs the AirHogs would score in the ball game. Final score, Explorers 8, AirHogs 2. 


The AirHogs finished with two runs, on six hits while leaving three runners on-base. Explorers had eight runs on fourteen hits on the night. Victor Ferrante was the big hitter for Grand Prairie, going 2 for 3, with two runs, one homer, and on RBI. The X’s had three batters finish with huge numbers at the plate. Michael Lang went 4 for 5 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs scored, Rene Tosoni had three hits on the contest, along with three runs batted in, a double and a stolen base. Ryan Court had a three-hit game as well as a run and an RBI. 


Ryan Zimmerman the starter for Sioux City will be accredited with the win. The Right-hander pitched eight full innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. AirHogs starter Bennett Whitmore was charged with the loss going six innings and giving up six runs.
