Sioux City-----The Explorers scored three runs in the ninth inning, but fell one run short in a 6-5 loss at Lewis and Clark Park Monday.
Adrian Martinez (pictured) led off the ninth with his first home run of the season and later in the inning Peter Barrows knocked in two runs with a single, his third hit of the game. With Anthony Kaskadden pinch running for Barrows and two out, Palmer Karr grounded out to first to end the game and the Explorers lost 6-5 in the first game of the three-game series to Kansas City.
The T-Bones never trailed in the game as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Jiro Perez, his eighth of the season. That came off X’s starter and losing pitcher Dan Jurik (1-3).
The Explorers scored a run in the second inning on a run scoring single by Leugim Barroso to cut the lead to 2-1. That would be as close as the Explorers would get until the bottom of the ninth inning.
The second game of the series will be played Tuesday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05pm. Reserve your nine innings of vacation with the X's by calling 277-9467 to reserve your tickets!
