March 5, 2010 - SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have signed former Atlanta Braves farmhand, C Ray Serrano to a 2010 American Association Contract.
The 29-year old Martinez, Georgia native has spent (9) seasons (1999 –2002, 2004-2008) in the Atlanta Braves system with (4) straight seasons at the AA or AAA level (2004-2008). Serrano also spent one season in the Tampa Bay organization (2003), while most recently beginning his Independent career in 2009 as member of the Sussex Skyhawks of the Can-Am League.
“Adding a veteran catcher to compliment our pitching staff was something we have been looking for all off-season and Ray comes to us highly recommended,” comments field manager Les Lancaster. “On top of his great defense and ability to call a game, Ray will bring another big bat to the middle of our line-up”.
Ray is coming off a very productive 2009-2010 winter ball season as a member of the Toros De Sincelejo in the Columbian Winter League. In (52) games, Serrano hit .367 with (9) doubles,(10) home runs, while driving in (47) RBI’s to go along with a .599 slugging percentage.

As a member of the Atlanta Braves AA affiliate in Jackson, MS in 2005-2007, Serrano compiled a batting average of .284 (2005), .242 (2006), .301 (2007). In 2008, Ray split time on a limited basis between the Braves AA and AAA franchises in 2008.
