« Back

January 28, 2010 - SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have re-signed former Sioux City Heelan and Wayne State graduate Dustin Jones for the 2010 season.

“Having Dustin back is a big lift for this team as he plays a very solid Outfield,” comments field manager Les Lancaster. “I am looking forward to seeing Dustin have a break out year at the plate, while also seeing him once again be a threat on the base paths.”

The 25-year old Sioux City, Iowa native hit .264 for the X’s in 2009 while appearing in (94) of the teams (96) scheduled games. The X’s Outfielder ranked 3rd in the American Association with (68) walks and also ranked 5th in the league with his (32) stolen bases, while ranking 2nd on the team with (57) runs scored. Jones also played a very strong defense last year for the X’s with only committing two errors in (238) total chances (.992 fielding percentage) while recording (229) put outs and (7) assists.

The 2010 season will mark Dustin’s 4th season in professional baseball with spending all four years with the X’s. In his three seasons in Sioux City, Dustin has a career .279 average and has recorded (198) hits, (148) walks, and (61) stolen bases in only (709) at bats. Jones was limited to only (37) games in 2007 after colliding into the outfield wall and breaking his wrist.
