July 29, 2010 - Lincoln, NE-----The Explorers stretched their winning streak to four games, matching their longest winning streak of the season, in beating Lincoln 9-4 Thursday at Haymarket Park. For the second straight night, the Explorers took the early lead 1-0 in the second inning on a RBI single by Javier Brown. Sioux City scored two more runs in the third, one on a RBI single by Ray Serrano, the other on a wild pitch by losing hurler Jim Paduch. Leading 3-0, the Explorers put the game away in the sixth inning, taking advantage of three Lincoln errors, scoring five runs on just three hits and led 8-0. After scoring a single run in the seventh to lead 9-0, Lincoln finally scored their four runs in the seventh. John Leonard, who got the emergency start for the Explorers, pitched four scoreless innings, allowing only three hits. Chad Povich, who was scheduled to start, was scratched at the last minute, with stiffness warming before the game. Mike Phelps who came in relief in the fifth was credited with his first win of the year. For the second straight game, the Explorers had 13 hits with newcomer Eric Williams, Kent Sakamoto, Ernie Banks and Javier Brown, all having two hits apiece. The third game of the series with Lincoln will be Friday at Haymarket Park. Game time will be 7:05. |
