July 23, 2010 - Sioux Falls, SD-----The Sioux Falls Pheasants rallied for eight runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Explorers Thursday 13-11 and swept the three-game series. It also stretched the Explorers losing streak to five games, their longest of the season. Sioux City took a 4-0 lead over Sioux Falls after four innings as the Explorers took advantage of three errors and scored four un-earned runs. Even after Sioux Falls came back to pull within a run 6-5 in the seventh inning, the Explorers scored twice in the top of the eighth to increase the lead to 8-5. However, Sioux Falls sent 11 batters to the plate in the eighth and scored eight runs to take a 13-8 lead. In that eighth inning, Beau Torbert hit a grand slam home run. The Explorer scored three times in the top of the ninth inning and had the tying runs on base when the final out was recorded. Catcher Matt Kramer led the Explorers with back-to-back home runs in the seventh and eighth innings, his first two of the season. In the loss, the Explorers standed 14 base runners. The X's will start a three-game series with Fort Worth Friday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
